On Sunday, from 1-3 PM, Amesbury Days continues with Railroad History on the Riverwalk, a scenic 2.2-mile guided walk along the Powow River Walkway and original railbed of the Salisbury (later Amesbury) Branch Railroad (1848-1972). Visit the restored Salisbury Point Depot and learn about Ghost Trains, the 1926 train robbery, the Dizzy Bridge, and more. The walk starts at the Upper Millyard Ampitheater and returns via the picturesque falls of the Powow River. Along the way, we will make several stops for narration at points of historic interest. The walk will be led by guides from Amesbury Outdoors.
Join us at 9:00 AM on Monday, 6/29 for a hike from the Woodsom North parking lot to Quinn Meadow, and back.
Join us at 9:00 AM on Monday, 6/29 for a hike from the Woodsom North parking lot to Quinn Meadow, and back. Approximately one hour - we will hike at the slowest pace of participants. On our way to the Meadow, there is a noticeable ascent, then descent, mid-hike, but we will pace ourselves and enjoy the journey and accomplishment one step at a time! We might even hear a symphony from the swamp birds and amphibians ...
Meet at Woodsom North parking lot near the kiosk. Directions: "Follow Lion's Mouth Road from downtown and look for the unsigned driveway on the right at a crosswalk. Follow to the end of that driveway for the parking lot and kiosk." For individual and group safety, please be prepared with closed-toe shoes with adequate support and traction, water, sun and insect protection, and clothing layers to suit your needs based on the weather forecast; poles are recommended for the descent. We'll have a waiver for your signature. Looking forward to seeing you! More information and map: https://www.amesburytrails.net/woodsom-farm
Join us at Lake Gardner Beach, meeting by the bath-house at 10 AM. This is a bring-your-own boat event, but boats may be rented from the City by contacting Amesbury Recreation. This casual paddle will include history and nature narration as we casually paddle from the beach from Lake Gardner up the Powow River. The duration of this paddle will be two hours. A PDF is required. Water and sunscreen is recommended. A waiver is required and will be provided. This event is weather dependent, and cancelled in the event of rain.
